- About Ikaria
Treat yourself to a delicious traditional family style Ikarian organic meal in a local family's home and learn about healthy Ikarian food and wine, cooking and organic gardening.
Gain insights from dinner conversation with your hosts and other guests on why Ikaria has been designated as a BlueZone for its extraordinarily long-lived and healthy people. Your hosts for the evening are George and Eleni Karimalis and the setting is their 500 year old ancestral mountain estate and winery located in a scenic village near Armenistis and Evdilos.
The evening starts on the terrace with "Ikarian mezedes" (appetizers) and a glass of organic wine from the winery's limited production. Before dinner you can take a relaxing stroll around the nearby vineyards and winery installations and gardens or just enjoy the view of the surrounding country side and Aegean Sea.
Among the variety of authentic Ikarian dishes you will sample are roasted goat, chickpea and eggplant salads, "Soufiko", a delicious and nourishing vegetable medley which is unique to Ikaria, "pitarakia", traditional Ikarian mini-pies stuffed with fresh from the garden flavored herbs & greens mixes and "Moustalevria", homemade grape wine pudding.
Enjoy a wonderful evening of delicious and healthy Ikarian food, wine, hospitality, friendship and lifestyle. You're in very good hands. Eleni, a renowned and passionate Ikarian chef, has a lifetime's experience in traditional Ikarian cooking and organic gardening and is an extraordinarily friendly and gracious host. Her husband George is an accomplished wine maker and pioneer in offering to the island's visitors: winemaking & gastronomy tours/seminars and alternative tourism experiences. His winery produces a bold, rich red called "Pramnian Odyssey" that's made from archaic indigenous vines and a sparkly white wine called "Euphoria".
Together, the couple have been frequent guests, hosts, commentators and guides for numerous local and international TV, print and digital media documentaries, news stories and articles about Ikaria and its BlueZone's culture and lifestyle health benefits.
